MMM ’13 Weeks 2, 3 and 4

My Me Made May officially derailed.  One sick toddler and while I’ve diligently been wearing me made clothes, I’m usually covered in snot before photos are taken.  Or not taken more accurately.  So, here’s a quick round up of what I have been wearing, then I’ll put my thoughts on the experience so far.  It’s been too cold for most my wardrobe, so I can guarantee nothing was worn that isn’t shown as below.

When Kristy commented on how hard it was to take all those photos – I clearly just  Wearing something me-made was the easy part, keeping the photos up was the horrifically bad part.  I’m still really glad to have participated, as I have learnt from this SO MUCH.

Here’s the big secret…I tend to dress very very simply.  Having neglected to mention that I was doing MMM to the husband, a week in he commented on how nice I had been looking, putting things more ‘together’.   Oh yes.  Having to take photos for the internet meant, I did crazy things, like wear scarves and earrings and leggings.  Maybe even do my hair a little differently.

It was also a pretty clear indicator that my “style” is not in fact anything like the “style” in my head.  Obviously, my mental style had much less snot in it, but also had more tailored work dresses and Jeans with casual but dressy french style tops.

In truth, my clothes are based on comfort pure and simple.  Throw on a dress with pockets and let’s get moving out the door.  The separates that I make, also tend to not co-ordinate very well.  Bright showy skirts, with pastel girly tops.  That combo ain’t ever going to work.   It’s time to accept that it’s time to sew more basics into that wardrobe.

On a side note, MMM forced me to finally concede to winter, and buy leggings and boots.  This year was the year of my first leggings.  Truth.  Also, only my second pair of boots.  EVER.  However, I’m now constantly wearing my Duo boots (with custom calf sizes so they fit my chunky calves), and my Tuffets legging (organic cotton and ethically made in Australia).   I was always the crazy lunatic at the train station wearing slip ons or flip flops in the freezing cold of winter.

Now I’m the crazy lunatic with boots and a pretty dress.  You know, the one always reading the sewing patterns on the train.

  1. Hubby is totally on to something – all your pics have a particular ‘flavour’ and I really like the style on you! I guffawed out loud at Ruby trying to do the Running Man in your arms with the dog walking past – ha!! I think my favs are definitely the gridlock dress (pure awesome) and that red skirt and black top outfit – those colours are awesome on you!
I would read sewing patterns on the train if I caught the train to work too 😉

    • Haha, thanks. I need to start hanging my clothes out the night before with jewellery and the like. It all seems to veer crazily between styles, but edges more toward ‘tomb raider’ than ‘roman holiday’

      • Aralia & Flore. Lovely. Aralia is slightly looser around the ankle but lovely to wear. I got the smallest calf size I think it’s just the style.
Flore are casual and I adore them. Wear them on weekends.

  2. I love that picture with the bubs and the dog. Such a perfect depiction of mummy life! Love your outfits. I tend to sew everything really dressy. I need more basics a d warm clothes. I was overdressed and cold for most of me made may.

  3. Yes my mental style doesn’t have snot or baby vomit in it! Well done on doing MMM even if you didn’t get the photos. I reckon it would be far more challenging than the actual challenge of wearing handmade garments. Love the Audrey dress.

  4. Well done! I like your style- It’s nice and clean, and a lot like what I look like most of the time! I collect scarves so that I can wear the same basic boring separates and then put a scarf on and feel like I’m wearing a whole new outfit. It’s the perfect trick 😉
