MMM ’13 Weeks 2, 3 and 4

My Me Made May officially derailed.  One sick toddler and while I’ve diligently been wearing me made clothes, I’m usually covered in snot before photos are taken.  Or not taken more accurately.  So, here’s a quick round up of what I have been wearing, then I’ll put my thoughts on the experience so far.  It’s been too cold for most my wardrobe, so I can guarantee nothing was worn that isn’t shown as below.

Dress – Maria Denmark Audrey dress – yet to be blogged

When Kristy commented on how hard it was to take all those photos – I clearly just  Wearing something me-made was the easy part, keeping the photos up was the horrifically bad part.  I’m still really glad to have participated, as I have learnt from this SO MUCH.

Here’s the big secret…I tend to dress very very simply.  Having neglected to mention that I was doing MMM to the husband, a week in he commented on how nice I had been looking, putting things more ‘together’.   Oh yes.  Having to take photos for the internet meant, I did crazy things, like wear scarves and earrings and leggings.  Maybe even do my hair a little differently.

It was also a pretty clear indicator that my “style” is not in fact anything like the “style” in my head.  Obviously, my mental style had much less snot in it, but also had more tailored work dresses and Jeans with casual but dressy french style tops.

In truth, my clothes are based on comfort pure and simple.  Throw on a dress with pockets and let’s get moving out the door.  The separates that I make, also tend to not co-ordinate very well.  Bright showy skirts, with pastel girly tops.  That combo ain’t ever going to work.   It’s time to accept that it’s time to sew more basics into that wardrobe.

On a side note, MMM forced me to finally concede to winter, and buy leggings and boots.  This year was the year of my first leggings.  Truth.  Also, only my second pair of boots.  EVER.  However, I’m now constantly wearing my Duo boots (with custom calf sizes so they fit my chunky calves), and my Tuffets legging (organic cotton and ethically made in Australia).   I was always the crazy lunatic at the train station wearing slip ons or flip flops in the freezing cold of winter.

Now I’m the crazy lunatic with boots and a pretty dress.  You know, the one always reading the sewing patterns on the train.

MMM ’13 week one

It’s not even been a full week, and there is a desperate need for warm clothes in my sewing plans!

Day one (Wednesday 1 May)
The first cab of the rank is this blue striped Renfrew, which has seen better days, which makes it a perfect playgroup outfit.

Renfrew day 1

Jumper – Renfrew
Top- Maria Denmark kimono blouse
Jeans – old rtw hand me downs
Expression – mmmm.  Tea.

Day two (Thursday 2 May)
This dress is just SO warm, it’s perfect even without tights around the office.

Cambie - day 2

Dress- winter cambie
Expression – why did I agree to take a photo every day?

Day three (Friday 3 May)
This is a blatant copy of the most amazing Kristy from lower your presserfoot. After seeing her lovely dress I went and bought the same ponte, and the same burda pattern. I haven’t blogged it for the slight embarrassment I felt.

Burda day 3

Dress – burda
Boots – duo boots
Expression – Unable to remember where my tights are (found them later!)

Day four (Saturday 4 May)

Today I was pretty tired after an epic sewing session Friday night, and this is as fancy as I got all day. I didn’t really venture into public all day, and was in bed by 9.15 that night!

Maria Denmark - day 4

Top – Maria Denmark kimono blouse
Pants – very old rtw esprit trousers
Expression – this is going to be a loooong month

Day five (Sunday 5 May)
Time to get gussied up for a day visiting family!

Cambie day 5

Dress- Funky cambie
Expression – dear god it’s to early to be up showered and out the door without a coffee on a Sunday

Day Six (Monday 6 May)
Back to work! I’m starting to see a pretty strong tendency towards sewaholic patterns now- but also that I need more warm basics! So much that I’ve sewn has been fun summer dresses.

Hollyburn day 6

Top – esprit rtw jumper with a country road knit basic
Skirt- Sewaholic Hollyburn
Expression – watching the dogs chase a possum in the backyard

Yikes! Time for some emergency sewing!  Also – my construction post is coming…it’s just getting very length and has given me sizeable bloggers block.
